Easy DIY Manicure and Pedicure You Should Try! 

Even though going to the salon is really not an option at this time, the lockdown isn't a good enough reason not to keep clean and neat. There are always ways to get things easily done.. I’ll give you simple tips you need to know to keep your nails always gorgeous.

It is called DIY (Do It Yourself) because they’re simple, very easy even with easy to get materials.

Here are basic materials which are readily available at home for your use.

  • Towel
  • Nail file
  • Nail polish (a top/base coat and colour)
  • Cuticle stick
  • Pumice stone
  • Foot file
  • Cotton pads/balls
  • Foot cream
  • Epsom salts
  • Basin/bowl
  • Nail polish remover

1. Clean off old polish



To start with, it is advisable to clean off any old polish, oil or dirt, using cotton pad wet with some non -acetone remover preferably, before you start your pedicure or manicure. (A non – acetone removal is considered mild compared to the acetone remover which can be very harsh). This is because, over time, old polish can cause nail discoloration. Make sure to clean the surface of your nails off every stain as a result of wearing too much dark polish. You know that yellow stain you find on your fingers nails over time? Yes, that’s it.

2. Soak your feet and hands

Haven removed the old nail polish and done proper trimming, pour some warm water in a small bowl and add a spoonful of Epsom salts. Soak your hands and feet for few minutes, maybe two to three for hands, and feet for five minutes. The purpose of this is to soften, exfoliate, and relax the skin.


3. Scrub the dead skin cells away

After soaking your feet and hands, scrub with a foot scrub and a pumice stone to scrape off all the dead skin cell. Then massage your hands and feet with moisturizer or foot cream deeply in a circular motion to increase circulation and reduce swelling.

4. Polish your nails

Apply a coat of protective base coat to protect the natural shine of your nails and prevent them from discoloration. Apply at least 2 coats for any of your favorite nail paint and let it dry for about 5 to 6 minutes. Make the layers of polish as thin as possible to help the polish dry quickly.  You can try out different designs and colors to suit you. If t’s your first attempt and you’re not too impressed with the outcome, not to worry, you’ll get better with practice. After the nail paint, apply a transparent shiny topcoat prevent your nail paint from fading off or chipping too quickly. Just one coat will smoothen away whatever flaws or flubs developed while applying your nail paint. It’s a lifesaving hack!
