Best Tips to care for your wigs

Your wigs will look exactly how you treat them. I’m sure you won’t want to spend a thousand bucks on wig collections and end up not wearing them due to poor maintenance. Believe me, they require as much attention as you give to your natural hair.

Here are few tips you should always put into practice if you want to get the best value for your wig.

Storage:

How do you store your wigs? Do you throw them on the sofa when you get back from work, and pick them up from the same position when next you want to use them? If you’ve really been doing that, I can bet that you’ve been treating your wig unfairly.

All your wigs should be properly stored in a satin bag or on a wig hanger. If it’s an everyday wig, place it on a wig stand to retain its style.

You should not sleep with your wig on, if you must, make sure to cover them with a satin scarf to protect the hair.

Detangling:

Run your fingers through your wigs to detangle your hair. If you must use a comb, make sure to use a wide-tooth comb, and not a tiny one, to detangle from bottom to top, so as to prevent your hair from shedding

Conditioning:

Make it a habit to apply conditioner on your hair; this is to keep it soft, hydrated, and moisturized.

Drying

Air dry your wig after wearing it. You do not have to turn the wig inside out; this is because dust and dirt can get trapped in the net.

Direct sunlight will fade your hair so avoid storing your wig where it will be exposed to such.

Oiling:

Use lightweight oil products, especially sulfate-free ones on your wig. The heavy creams would make the hair accumulate more specks of dirt.

Reduce heating:

Reduce the amount of heating you expose your weaves to. Just like your natural hair, excessive exposure to high temperatures can denature your hair bundles.

Maintain the curls:

  • Put a few drops of leave-in conditioner in a spray bottle containing water.
  • Shake till it’s well mixed
  • Spray all over your hair
  • Use finger or wide tooth comb to untangle from bottom to top
  • Apply mousse and comb

Care for your natural hair

Make sure to redo your natural hair when you notice they become unkempt.

Also, avoid wearing a wig when your head is damp, to prevent breeding fungus and germs.
